How to Install an MKG Update

The MKG update process is a three-step process. After downloading the version on the server and installing it the (local) MKG clients will be updated. This article explains these steps.

 

This manual is intended for users with administrative rights (application administrators) of on-premise and private cloud installations. If you use MKG in a cloud environment managed by MKG, performing these actions is not necessary.

 

For optimal functioning of MKG it is important to install updates regularly. In the Users module » 'General' » 'Login' check the 'Show Version Notification' box, to get notified that there is a new update when starting MKG.



Step 1. Download

  1. Start an MKG client and log in as an administrator or as a user with administrative rights.
  2. Click Help
    and choose 'Info'.
  3. In the MKG Information window, under 'Available Version', click Download now….

During the download MKG can be used normally. The download can be followed via the MKG Information window.



Step 2. Install

After the download is complete, the version can be installed. Since it is not possible to work in MKG during the installation, it is advisable to carry it out outside working hours.

  1. Click Help
    and choose 'Info'.
  2. In the MKG Information window, under 'Available Version', click Install now….

During the installation, a status bar will be visible, in which the progress of the installation can be followed.

 

An installation usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes. MKG cannot be used at the time of installation.



Step 3. Update Client(s)

The MKG client(s) is/are automatically updated on the workstations as soon as they are (re)started. This can sometimes take some time.

 

Terminal Server

When using MKG in a terminal server environment, it is important that no mkgclient.exe processes are active on the terminal server when the MKG clients are updated. Files are overwritten during the update. This is not possible if they are still in use by one or more running mkgclient.exe processes.

The MKG software is continuously improved and expanded. Team Engineering works for this in development sprints using the scrum method. Each sprint takes 4 to 5 weeks with a new MKG version as a result. Patches may be released in the meantime to make important improvements available earlier.
